The Florida Gators are amped up for their annual Cocktail Party matchup with the Georgia Bulldogs. For the first time in recent memory, both schools have College Football Playoff stakes on the line ahead of kickoff.

Jon Sumrall is happy to be in CFP contention during his first season in Gainesville. However, he’s focused on building a foundation for sustained success. He doesn’t want this campaign to be a blip on the radar. To accomplish that, he believes the Gators need to follow the Bulldogs’ blueprint in roster maintenance. While Florida obtained 38 transfers this offseason, Georgia added just 16, the fewest in the SEC.

“[Georgia’s way] is how you create consistency,” Sumrall told CBS Sports’ Brandon Marcello. “This past year, we had to go out and get guys out of the portal just to be able to field a football team that could practice… [we] better never again be high 20s, 30s, or we got a real problem.”

The Gators have big wins over Ole Miss and Texas on their CFP resume. Despite this, ESPN’s Football Power Index gives Sumrall’s team just a 16.9% chance to reach the CFP. A victory over the Bulldogs in Atlanta would certainly raise those odds. Florida and Georgia kick off at 3:30 p.m. ET on Halloween (ABC).
