Kamari Wilson found his new home. The former top-50 recruit will get a fresh start at Arizona State after 2 seasons at Florida.

Wilson’s signing with the Gators was celebrated as a big recruiting win for Billy Napier and UF. Things did not work out as either party hoped.

Out of the IMG Academy, Wilson was a 5-star prospect when he made the surprising decision to sign with Florida over his “final 4” of Florida State, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M. Wilson finished as a high 4-star, the No. 44 overall prospect in the 247Sports Composite’s final rankings for the Class of 2022, making him the highest-rated signee in Napier’s first UF class.

In the 2022 season, Wilson played in 13 games, recording 39 tackles, 1.5 TFL, 1 pass breakup and 1 forced fumble. Wilson’s solid debut did not translate into any momentum for his second season.

Wilson participated in Florida’s first 3 games of the 2023 season. He finished with 1 tackle, which came against FCS program McNeese.

In Week 4, there was a bizarre incident during a UF home game in which Wilson was escorted from the team sidelines. After the game, Napier said Wilson could not be on the sidelines because he was not part of the 80-man “travel roster” for the game.

By playing in only 3 games, Wilson is able to apply a redshirt to the 2023 season. He will have 3 remaining seasons of eligibility at ASU, which begins play in the Big 12 next season.
