Kentucky is losing an experienced linebacker with starting experience to the NCAA transfer portal.
On Monday, Derek Terry of 247Sports.com reported that Wildcats senior linebacker Marquez Bembry has entered his name into the portal. Bembry spent 3 seasons at Kentucky after beginning his college career at Jones College in Ellisville, Miss.
Bembry had 9 tackles in 12 games during the 2021 season. That came after he had 27 tackles in 11 games in 2020, when he also made 2 starts for the Wildcats.
A former 3-star JUCO recruit, Bembry still has 1 year of eligibility remaining because of the extra year given to players by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
As Terry pointed out, Bembry becomes the 10th Kentucky player to enter the transfer portal this offseason, and he’s the 8th who was a member of the Wildcats’ 2019 recruiting class.
Kentucky will have to hope it won’t lose much more depth, but it’s always a possibility that players could enter the transfer portal this time of year.
