Kirk Herbstreit comments on GameDay visit that resulted in NCAA violation for Ohio State
There’s a chance, although we’ll never really know how big of one, that five-star defensive end Micah Parsons would have signed with Ohio State. The five-star Pennsylvania native is expected to sign with Penn State Wednesday but he had interest in the Buckeyes during his recruitment.
So much so, that Parsons visited Columbus on at least one occasion — during Ohio State’s home game against Oklahoma this season. Parsons stopped by the GameDay set and was given passes and took photos with the hosts and celebrity picker Eddie George of the show — Herbstreit and George are both Ohio State graduates.
Seems harmless enough, right?
Well according to NCAA rules, the actions constituted a recruiting violation and Ohio State was forced to back off his recruitment.
Herbstreit commented after the story was posted by The Lantern:
To be crystal clear-I can assure you @EddieGeorge2727 & I HAD NO IDEA who we took a picture with that day. He came on the set at a commercial break & asked for a picture with Eddie and I. I assumed he must be a recruit but had no idea who he was or what he was doing. Ridiculous!

He followed up that tweet with this one:
No clue. Kind of busy from 9-12pm on Saturdays. Had no idea he was gonna stop by or that he was gonna pop up on set. When he asked for a picture I said sure. I take pictures with recruits on nearly every campus every Saturday. https://t.co/0oERKBmyra

The GameDay host went into further detail on ESPNU radio:
