Kirk Herbstreit thinks that Week 8 will be another chaotic one in the world of college football.

Week 7 saw five top-10 teams suffer defeats. At Sanford Stadium, No. 1 Georgia lost on a last-second field goal to Auburn. Notre Dame, ranked No. 2, fell on the road to No. 8 BYU. Alabama, at No. 6, suffered a third straight loss at No. 14 Tennessee. Meanwhile, in Austin, Florida stunned No. 7 Texas. The lone Top 5 vs. Top 5 battle of the week went to No. 4 Ohio State, which defeated No. 5 and previously undefeated Indiana. Even No. 2 Miami was pushed to the brink by Florida State before surviving in double overtime.

Herbstreit, looking ahead to Week 8 on College GameDay, discussed the number of ranked teams playing on the road against unranked teams. Three of them, including No. 18 LSU at Auburn and No. 6 Indiana at Michigan, are in the noon window.

Several of those ranked teams could be in trouble, Herbstreit predicted.

“It’s going to be a very similar Saturday this week as we had last week. Maybe not five of the top eight going down, but we have 15 ranked versus unranked. And if you look at it, I think eight of them are on the road. I think you’re going to get three of those eight that will lose today,” he said.

Outside of LSU/Auburn and Indiana/Michigan, No. 8 Texas Tech is at Cincinnati in another noon ET window game. In the 3:30 window, No. 2 BYU is at UCF, No. 11 Tennessee visits South Carolina, and No. 15 Iowa travels to Minnesota. No. 21 Boise State at Washington State is a 6 p.m. ET start. At 7:30 ET, No. 16 USC is at Wisconsin.

We’ll see whether Herbstreit’s prediction holds up, or if the ranked teams can come out unscathed from some tricky road contests.
