It was an action-packed Week 8 with a ton of exciting games and huge upsets. ESPN’s Kirk Herbstreit revealed his updated top 5 going into Week 9 and there’s an interesting team on the list.
On the Nonstop with Kirk + Joey podcast, Herbstreit listed Ohio State at the top, followed by Indiana, Texas A&M, Georgia Tech, and Alabama. This immediately got a rise out of Joey Galloway, who questioned Herbstreit about Georgia Tech.
Georgia Tech is ranked No. 7 in the AP poll after defeating host Duke 27-18 over the weekend. Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King completed 14 of his 21 passes for 205 yards while also rushing for 120 yards and a score.
“I love Georgia Tech. I love Brent Key. I love Haynes King,” Herbstreit said. “I love that team, man.”
Galloway gave some props to Georgia Tech before making his argument.
“I love what they’re doing. I love what they have done,” Galloway said. “They’re fun to watch.”
Galloway then asked Herbstreit if Georgia Tech could reel off a 4-0 record like Alabama just did against ranked SEC opponents. Alabama is ranked No. 4 and coming off a 37-20 victory vs. then-No. 11 Tennessee.
“No, I don’t think so,” Herbstreit said. “Not many people could.”
Regardless of its ranking, Georgia Tech is still in the driver’s seat for the ACC title game with a 4-0 mark in conference play. Meanwhile, Alabama is tied with Texas A&M atop the SEC.
