LSU president insists issue of adding NFL players is ‘moot’ in email to Greg Sankey

LSU president Wade Rousse sent a letter to SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey on Wednesday confirming that the program will not move forward with adding professional players to its roster. This comes after LSU reached the 105-player limit on Wednesday night with the addition of 2 non-pro players, effectively ending Zxavian Harris and Dae’Quan Wright’s bids to play for LSU this season.
Rousse’s letter was sent just before the SEC’s federal court hearing was continued on Wednesday, indicating that the situation is simmering down before the SEC’s scheduled meeting to vote on potentially expelling LSU from the conference on Thursday.
On that subject, Rousse’s letter to Commissioner Sankey also mentions that LSU will not “challenge, disrupt or seek to cancel or postpone tomorrow’s meeting between SEC Presidents and Chancellors.”
“This issue is also moot.” Rousse wrote.

The SEC, as Paul Finebaum put it Wednesday morning, is “extremely angry” about the entire situation, which has essentially become a game of chicken. With LSU’s actions across the past few days, it appears the Tigers have flinched first.
According to Thamel on Wednesday morning, the SEC is “not expected” to actually kick LSU out of the conference, but everything is on the table heading into Thursday’s meeting. Keep in mind, a 2/3rds vote is required among SEC Presidents/Chancellors to expel LSU — a founding member of the SEC — from the conference.
