Multiple media reports over the course of the last 72 hours had indicated that Miami was actively pursuing Oregon coach Mario Cristobal, a former Hurricanes player and Miami native.
All the while, Diaz and his staff continued to recruit, drawing sympathy from college football analysts and fans and creating a backlash over the University’s handling of the situation.
Diaz was 21-15 as head coach of the Hurricanes.
No official announcement has been made about Cristobal, but it now appears there’s a good chance he’ll be returning home.
