Georgia coach Mark Richt spoke briefly on Nick Chubb’s injury following Georgia’s loss to Tennessee on Saturday, saying that he hopes his running back won’t require surgery.

“Iโ€™m optimistic that it wonโ€™t require surgery, but I canโ€™t say that 100 percent,โ€ Richt said. โ€œAs of right now, weโ€™re still pretty hopeful that it wonโ€™t require surgery, but weโ€™re not 100 percent sure of that yet. But weโ€™ve got to get some confirmation here tomorrow.โ€

Chubb’s injury early in the game temporarily deflated the Georgia sideline.

โ€œNick getting hurt on play one wasnโ€™t very exciting to see at all,โ€ Richt said. โ€œ He was in pain, physical and mental pain knowing that he wasnโ€™t going to be able to finish out this game. He put so much work into this game. Everybody loves Nick Chubb. Everybody respects Nick Chubb. Heโ€™s a true warrior when it comes to playing football and heโ€™s one of the finest people we have on our team.โ€
