Now that Tua Tagovailoa has his professional football home, the latest media/fan debate centers around when the former Alabama quarterback will be ready to be QB1 of the Miami Dolphins.

Jersey sales show that fans are ready for it to be Tua Time in Miami. Tagovailoa certainly wouldn’t be the first rookie to start Week 1, but this isn’t your typical offseason. Earlier this month, former Missouri Tiger and current Detroit Lion Chase Daniel opined that Tagovailoa is unlikely to see early playing time thanks to the coronavirus pandemic putting a hold on offseason camp. Former NFL quarterback and FOX Sports analyst Michael Vick, however, sees things differently.

During an appearance on The Herd, Vick shared that he strongly believes in playing Tagovailoa early in his rookie season, believing the No. 5 pick will only briefly be the backup quarterback on the depth chart, pointing to recent rookie starts by Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

“It won’t be long, I expect him to be the starter Week 1,” Vick told host Colin Cowherd. “I’m excited. Just watching him throw the football there, he reminds me of Steve Young.”

If Tagovailoa has a career anything like Young, a fellow left-hander, all the pre-Draft talk of injury concerns and the Dolphins possibly picking Justin Herbert will likely be viewed similarly to the Peyton Manning-Ryan Leaf debate that surrounded the 1998 Draft.
