Mike Elko reiterates confidence in Marcel Reed after rough outing vs. Kentucky

The Texas A&M Aggies were expected to head into this weekend’s clash with the LSU Tigers as an unbeaten team. Instead, they’re 2-1 after a disappointing loss to the Kentucky Wildcats.
Quarterback Marcel Reed struggled on Saturday, completing just 53.1% of his passes (26/49) for only 236 yards, 1 touchdown and 2 interceptions. Ahead of the game against LSU, head coach Mike Elko supported his starting passer in wake of his bad outing.
“I have a lot of confidence in Marcel,” Elko told reporters. “I believe in Marcel, and Marcel is our quarterback.”
While Elko has his signal-caller’s back, fans are split. Fans acknowledge Reed’s flaws, and some believe the team would be best moving on. However, there’s not really a clear answer for who should be QB1 in his place. Others think the Aggies and Reed could work things out if they re-designed their offense.
Perhaps a return to Death Valley will awaken Reed. Last year in Baton Rouge, Reed recorded 310 total yards and 4 touchdowns in Texas A&M’s 49-25 win over LSU. He also had 2 interceptions in that game, which are mistakes that he won’t be able to afford against this year’s Tiger team. A strong performance on Saturday night, though (7:30 p.m. E.T., ABC) would presumably put him back in Gig Em’s good graces.
