Four-star defensive end Emmit Gooden committed to Mississippi State on Thursday evening at an event at his high school.

The 6-foot-3, 280-pound prospect from Brownwood, Tenn., chose the Bulldogs over offers from LSU, Tennessee and Alabama among others.

Gooden was named Tennesseeโ€™s Mr. Football Class 4A lineman of the year in late November and was the seventh-ranked prospect in Tennessee and the 13th-ranked strong-side defensive end in the nation according to 247Sports Composite rankings.

There is also a family tie-in to the Bulldogs as Goodenโ€™s older brother, Jarvis Varnado, played basketball at Mississippi State from 2006-2010.

Gooden is the 15thย commitment in the 2016 recruiting class for Mississippi State.
