Mizzou hires director of football strategy and finance ahead of 2025 season

Missouri has hired a new personnel staffer with a unique job description just ahead of the 2025 college football season.
The athletic department announced the hiring of Gaurav Verma to be its first-ever director of football strategy and finance on Friday evening. Verma’s responsibilities will include strategic planning in a number of “key areas” such as revenue cap planning, talent evaluation, analytics and more.
Here’s a more detailed look at Verma’s responsibilities, per Mizzou’s press release:
- Roster, scholarship and revenue cap planning
- Talent evaluation and scouting operations
- Recruiting calendar and logistics
- Analytics and recruiting infrastructure
- Compliance, NIL and interdepartmental collaboration
As for his qualifications Mizzou says Verma “brings a decade of experience across sports finance, data analytics and investment banking.” He most recently worked in the NFL with the Denver Broncos as a salary cap specialist.
Head coach Eli Drinkwitz is supportive of the hire.
“We are really excited to add Gaurav to our program,” Drinkwitz said in a statement. “His NFL experience, as well as his business background, will help us navigate revenue sharing and contract management.”

Mizzou is the latest program to make a front office hire with an eye on preparing for the future in the revenue-sharing era. Athletic departments across the country have been evolving in recent months along with the entire college football landscape, and Gaurav’s hire is the latest example.
Mizzou will open the 2025 season against Central Arkansas on Aug. 28.
