Transfer portal attrition has begun to hit programs across the country, and Mizzou became the latest victim on Wednesday.
Reports throughout the day had suggested that former blue-chip running back Marquise Davis was set to hit the portal, and Davis confirmed that news later in the afternoon by quoting a post from On3Sports’ Hayes Fawcett and typing a purple cross emoji above the news.
Davis was rated a 4-star prospect by 247Sports’ Composite in the Class of 2025, as the Cleveland native chose the Tigers over the likes of Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, and Ohio State.
Appearing in just 3 non-conference games this season, Davis carried the ball 34 times for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns. His breakout performance came during Mizzou’s Week 2 win over Louisiana, when he racked up 113 yards and a score on 20 touches.
With both Ahmad Hardy and Jamal Roberts set to return as juniors in 2026, Davis likely didn’t see an immediate path to playing time during his sophomore year and thus opted to try his luck elsewhere.
Davis figures to be highly pursued in the portal, given he still has 3 years of eligibility and has already shown flashes of his potential in moments.
