Notre Dame schedules game against Lou Holtz’s alma mater
Notre Dame announced a series of new football games this week, including a matchup against Kent State, the alma mater of the late Lou Holtz.
The Fighting Irish will face Kent State in 2027 in South Bend. Additionally, Notre Dame announced it has extended its series with Stanford through the 2028 season.
Notre Dame will host Kent State on Oct. 2, 2027.
Holtz, who passed away earlier this year, played linebacker for the Golden Flashes and graduated with a degree in history from Kent State back in 1959. He later went on to have a legendary coaching career, which included a stint at Notre Dame from 1986-96.

Marcus Freeman also has a connection to Kent State. He was the linebackers coach for the Golden Flashes from 2011-12. This was his first coaching role outside of a graduate assistant job at Ohio State.
Notre Dame and Kent State have no previous meetings on the gridiron.
