Ole Miss has been an up-and-down team during SEC play this season, but is on a nice little streak now after the Rebels defeated South Carolina, 72-68, to win their 3rd consecutive SEC game.
The Rebels were in control of this game in the first half, as they took a 42-32 lead into intermission. However, the Gamecocks responded in the 2nd half and even took a 58-57 lead with 6:55 left in the game on a Jamarii Thomas jumper. They took their final lead of the game with 3:06 in the game, but the Rebels ended the game on an 8-2 run to secure the win.
Malik Dia led the way for the Rebels (19-6, 8-4) with 18 points, while Jaemyn Brakefield added another 14 off the bench.
The Gamecocks (10-14, 0-11) have been competitive in a lot of SEC games this year, but they just haven’t been able to get over the hump. South Carolina forward Collin Murray-Boyles led all scorers in the game with 20 points.
Ole Miss will look to move to a 4-game winning streak in conference play as the Rebels face in-state rival Mississippi State. The 2 teams played earlier in the seaon in Starkville, and the Bulldogs won that game 84-81.
South Carolina will be in action on Saturday as well as they take on No. 3 Florida.
