Oscar Tshiebwe is already a great player in Kentucky basketball history, but the big man may be on the verge of joining elite company in Lexington.
Entering tonight’s game against Florida, Tshiebwe has 43 double-doubles in his career with Kentucky. With his next double-double, he will tie Cotton Nash for the 2nd-most in Kentucky history. Dan Issel has the most with 64 from 1968-70, according to ESPN Stats & Info.
After Wednesday night, UK has 3 games remaining in the regular season ahead of the SEC Tournament.
Tshiebwe averages 15.8 points per game and 13 rebounds per game. In the first game against Florida, Tshiebwe had 4 points and 15 rebounds.
UK will face Florida without Colin Castleton, its leading scorer and rebounder, after Castleton broke his hand in the win over Ole Miss last week.
The Wildcats need a big showing to stay in the NCAA Tournament field, as they’ve picked up momentum in the last week to play themselves off the bubble.
