When Alabama DL Da’Shawn Hand was arrested for DUI before the start of fall camp last week, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum immediately called for coach Nick Saban to suspend the talented senior.

In fact, during an appearance on SportsCenter, Finebaum went as far as to call Saban “soft” when it comes to disciplining players.

Of course, in recent days, it has been revealed that Hand was not actually operating his vehicle when he was arrested. Instead, he was asleep in a parked car, but that still constitutes “constructive possession” of the vehicle in the state of Alabama.

Having learned all the new information, Finebaum said on Monday that he now thinks Saban handled the situation very well and was right to wait for all the facts to emerge before deciding on punishment:

Saban has said Hand will not be suspended for Alabama’s season opener against Florida State, providing he does what’s asked of him by the Crimson Tide program.

It’s a safe bet that Finebaum won’t be so quick to criticize Saban the next time an Alabama player faces problems with the law.
