Paul Finebaum chimed in with his thoughts on LSU’s defense after a 62-0 shutout against Army last weekend during a recent appearance on McElroy and Cubelic In The Morning.

No. 15 LSU cruised into the bye week after holding Army to 193 total yards and forcing 4 turnovers. This sets the stage for a clash at rival Alabama on Nov. 4 that could go a long way in determining the SEC West representative in the conference title game.

The ESPN analyst believes LSU and its defense in particular, are riding momentum after the blowout victory.

“I think it’s gotten a little better. I think a game like that gives you confidence. Anybody that’s ever been on a defensive side of anything, when you throw a shutout, it doesn’t matter who it’s against, you feel good. I think that’s a great feeling,” Finebaum said. “You don’t want to go into a bye week beat up and battered. Instead, the schedule makers were kind to LSU giving them a confidence builder.”

Finebaum has confidence that LSU has turned the corner since its 2 losses this season.

“I feel good about this LSU team. I have all along. I think the FSU game was just you were up against 1 of the top 4 teams in the country and you probably didn’t even realize it,” Finebaum said. “Ole Miss was a game that they could’ve won. That was just a high-scoring shootout. It’s a matter of making 1 last play.”

However, Finebaum is still predicting an Alabama victory as of now.

“At this juncture, we’re 12 days out, I favor Alabama at this point because I really like what I’m seeing on the Alabama side,” Finebaum said. “…In a game like this at night, it’s going to give Alabama a little more of an edge from the intangibles than they even had against Tennessee.”
