Paul Finebaum understands the turnover for the Auburn staff under Hugh Freeze after one season, including both coordinators and multiple key recruiters. The latest was a former Auburn player hired by Gus Malzahn.
He measured that and the state of the program during his regular Monday segment on WJOX and “McElroy and Cubelic In the morning.”
“You have to be concerned, although some of these things are still without explanation,” Finebaum said. “I think the staff has gotten better. I really feel like Hugh Freeze has most of the questions answered in terms of recruiting. I’m extremely impressed, a little bit shaky on a couple of other things, but I think this is just the cost of doing business right now. He made changes from a bad changes from a bad situation he took over from, and I think he’s finding out that more changes had to be made.”
Finebaum said he’s looking for more explanation on the departures of Carnell Williams and Zac Etheridge. Finebaum said he believes whatever the reasons were, that Freeze made the best decision he could.
