Paul Finebaum is really just like you and me.
He wants to see Ohio State and Urban Meyer take on the SEC Champion, in this case, most likely Alabama.
Finebaum hopped on SportsCenter Thursday to talk about Meyer and the Buckeyes, and he disclosed the championship game that he wants to see.
“The game I want to see — and the game that would define college football this year — would be Alabama and Ohio State in the finals because of a couple of things,” Finebaum said on SportsCenter. “First of all, you have the two best coaches in the land. You have Saban with five and Urban with three. I’ve declared Saban the greatest coach of all time and everyone else has as well, but what if Urban Meyer beats Saban again? He beat him two years ago in the semifinals. That would make it five to four.
“Urban Meyer with a championship could at least stop Nick Saban from wearing that crown.”
Hands down, Saban and Meyer are the two best coaches in college football right now. Saban and Meyer are 2-2 during their careers against one another. They consistently recruit the best talent and develop the best talent.
Both teams, ironically, enter the season losers of their last game, both to Clemson.
The last time these two matched up against one another, Meyer’s Buckeyes beat Saban’s Tide 42-35 in the 2015 Sugar Bowl.
Alabama and Ohio State enter the season ranked No. 1 and No. 2 respectively, but it’s doubtful that anything that happens in 2017 will ultimately decide who’s the better coach. Something says both coaches have a few more years left in the tank to continue writing their legacies.
