The 2026 bowl season will have a new addition to the slate. According to On3, Puerto Rico is getting a bowl game for the first time ever. The Puerto Rico Bowl will be a matchup between Group of 6 programs.
This comes after the bowls in Detroit, Bahamas, and LA were cancelled after last season.
In October 2025, the HBCU Puerto Rico Bowl was supposed to take place in Mayaguez for a Division II game featuring Kentucky State and Franklin Pierce. However, it was cancelled due to poor field conditions. This new Puerto Rican Bowl has no affiliation with the HBCU game. A location for the Puerto Rican Bowl has yet to be determined.
