Quinn Ewers was a 7th-round draft pick by the Miami Dolphins in 2025. With Zach Wilson in the fold, Ewers has an uphill battle if he wants to supplant the 5-year vet and former NFL starter as the backup to Tua Tagovailoa.
On Saturday, in a preseason game against the Detroit Lions, Ewers put himself on the board with his first professional touchdown pass. It came with just over 4-and-a-half minutes played in the 3rd quarter, as the former Texas QB connected with Theo Wease Jr. as the Dolphins tied the game at 14.
Here’s video of Ewers’ touchdown throw:
The 3-year starter at Texas, who led the nation in touchdown passes in 2024, led the Longhorns to back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances. He ended his career with 9,128 yards and 68 touchdowns. His passing yardage and passing touchdowns both rank 3rd in program history. He also left with the fourth- and fifth-highest single season passing totals and the third-highest single-game total (452).
Ewers was then drafted in the 7th round by the Dolphins in 2025. He was one of 12 Texas players drafted, a program record that broke the record of 11 set a year ago.
