Report: New Mizzou OC Derek Dooley’s contract details, salary emerge

Missouri on Friday hired Derek Dooley to run its offense.

The Tigers will pay him $2.7 million over three years, according to contract details reported by PowerMizzou.com’s Gabe DeArmond. That is approximately $200,000 more per year than former offensive coordinator (and now UCF head coach) Josh Heupel made.

Dooley will be Mizzou’s offensive coordinator and its quarterbacks coach.

Dooley is mostly known for his tenure as Tennessee’s head coach from 2010 through 2012 — a time period in which he compiled a 15-21 overall record without ever beating a ranked opponent.

More recently, Dooley served as the Dallas Cowboys’ wide receivers coach. He had held that position since 2013, but was informed earlier in the week that he would not be retained.

Thus, the door was opened for Mizzou to make the hire.

“I am excited to be a Mizzou Tiger and look forward to helping Coach Odom carry out his vision for the program. I am grateful for this opportunity, and am ready to get to Columbia and go to work,” Dooley said in a statement.
