Sean McDonough travels to college football stadiums everywhere as one of ESPN’s top announcers. He may not get the warmest welcome next time in Oxford.
Broadcasting booths came up as a topic when McDonough recently appeared on The Brandon Walker College Football Show. McDonough said Ole Miss has the worst booth in college football.
โThe booth is tiny – it used to be bigger, but the athletic department took away seats – to the point where our stats guy has to be behind us. … There canโt be a fourth person, because itโs not wide enough.
“Youโre a little to the left of the 50-yard line, but we have a lot of those noon Eastern starts there, which are 11 Central, and the sun is hitting you right in the face. I donโt like to wear sunglasses on TV, because you look like youโre doing a Hollywood shot, but you almost have to there when the game starts, because youโre just getting blasted in the face. Itโs just a really uncomfortable place to do a game.โ
McDonough made clear that he likes Ole Miss fans and the football environment in Oxford, just not the broadcast booth in the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium press box. McDonough also said he doesn’t like the location of the booth in Auburn’s Jordan-Hare Stadium.
