Could the SEC land two teams in the CFP? Commissioner Greg Sankey weighs in

Heading into Week 8, the SEC still has two undefeated teams — No. 1 Alabama and No. 3 Georgia.
The Bulldogs are off this week, but the Crimson Tide could improve to 8-0 with a win over the struggling Tennessee Volunteers.
On Friday, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey joined SEC Network host Paul Finebaum to discuss the possibility of the SEC having two teams in the College Football Playoff.
As you can see in this video, Sankey isn’t ready to talk about the CFP just yet, saying there’s still a month and a half of football left to play and that anything can happen:
“There’s a lot of football that remains to be played,” he said. “I’ll be in Tuscaloosa — I have not seen Alabama play in person yet this year. Georgia has an off week and then goes into the Florida game, which is a big rivalry game. Then, boom, we’re in November and those last four weeks, we’ve seen a lot happen.
“When you hear football coaches talking about things like rat poison and trying to keep their team focused, it is, “I need this team to play every week and nothing is done until somebody hoists a trophy.’ That happens the first week of December in our conference championship game. …
“We have two important division races. We get to see what happens with a bunch of teams really challenging themselves. … It’ll be fun. That’s why we do this, right?”
Sankey’s attitude would likely earn Alabama coach Nick Saban’s stamp of approval, as Saban hates when media members look ahead and try to project beyond the current game.
However, it’s understandable that fans of Georgia and Alabama are already eyeing a potential SEC Championship Game matchup between two undefeated teams.
