SEC history will be at the forefront of a Week 4 in the conference that literally has never been seen.
According to SEC football spokesman Chuck Dunlap, the 5 ranked SEC showdowns that will fill up a Week 4 slate to remember are the “most ranked matchups in a single day from one conference in college football history.”

Dunlap confirmed this fact on Monday morning after posting on his social media on Sunday afternoon: “There are five Top-25 matchups in the SEC next weekend, compared to a total of two such games across the rest of college football.”
One day after Dunlap set the stage for a legendary Week 4 SEC slate, he posted confirmation of it not only being an epic Saturday to come in the SEC compared to the rest of the college football world, but that it also will be the most ever matchups of ranked teams on 1 single Saturday from 1 single conference, and that conference is the SEC.
Now, there was a little nuance in all this pomp and circumstance that Dunlap had to navigate, and that came along with the SEC Network social media post about there being “only” 4 ranked SEC showdowns in Week 4. The post came along with the headline: “WEEK 4 IS GONNA BE LEGENDARY,” that came complete with a popcorn emoji.
Here is the post that Dunlap had to clarify early Monday afternoon with his own post that made mention of Oklahoma being ranked 24th in the new Coaches’ Poll. That would mean the matchup between the Sooners and 2nd-ranked Georgia in Athens would also count as a “ranked SEC matchup,” meaning there were really 5 ranked showdowns in the conference in Week 4 when considering both major polls.
