Shane Beamer was a witness to a wonderful freshman season by quarterback LaNorris Sellers in 2024.

As great as Sellers was as a redshirt freshman last fall, and he was spectacular, especially for a signal-caller in his first season in the rugged SEC, Beamer believes there is a lot more to improve on. So far in 2025, as South Carolina goes through spring practices leading up to the Garnet & Black Spring Game on April 18, Sellers is showing Beamer that he is capable of those improvements.

Sellers threw for 2,534 yards with 18 touchdowns and just 7 interceptions in 2024, and he was a big problem on the ground for defenses, piling up 674 yards and 7 TDs. One of those 7 rushing touchdowns was a 20-yard scoring scamper with 1:08 left that lifted South Carolina to a thrilling victory at rival Clemson, so Sellers also showed he has a flair for the dramatic and a clutch gene as a freshman.

But what about now? What about his sophomore season and 2025 as Beamer and the Gamecocks turn the page?

Beamer was a guest on SEC Network on Friday and spoke about how much he expects from his quarterback as an encore this fall.

“He’s established. Last year, he was trying to find his way. He’s competing after a season like he had in 2024. I see him being more vocal, being willing to hold his teammates and himself accountable,” explained Shane Beamer. “Just a lot more confidence in the role and confident in himself and more vocal. Last year, it was certainly a quiet confidence. This year, I see him being the leader that we need him to be.”

Beamer can’t wait to see it all unfold. Spring football is one thing. This fall, it will all come to fruition as Beamer, Sellers’s teammates and Gamecocks fans get to see exactly what Sellers can do for an encore.
