South Carolina 2027 QB commit suffers season-ending injury
The South Carolina Gamecocks have picked up wins over top 16 teams each of the last two times they’ve taken the field. Their victories may have been enough to save Shane Beamer’s job. Unfortunately, not everything around the program is sunshine and rainbows anymore.
Late Monday night, Dallas Morning News reporter Greg Riddle revealed Waxahachie High School quarterback Jerry Meyer III — a South Carolina commit — suffered a broken collarbone in his team’s 35-28 victory over Duncanville last Friday. The senior passer, according to head coach Lawrence Williams, will miss at least “the rest of the regular season.”
Meyer, a Waxahachie native, committed to the Gamecocks back on Apr. 3, 2026. He is the No. 57 quarterback in the country and No. 152 overall player in Texas, according to 247Sports Composite rankings.
Prior to his injury, Meyer had been in the midst of a dominant season. According to Riddle, Meyer has completed 67.5% of his passes for 2,098 yards, 24 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Waxahachie is expected to give running back Taylen Strange — a junior with offers from SMU, UTSA and Louisiana Tech, among others — more touches in the wake of Meyer’s ailment.
At the college level, South Carolina hopes to carry its momentum forward against Oklahoma on Halloween.
