South Carolina adds Big 12 transfer WR who began career as Gamecocks walk-on

DJ Black is heading back to Columbia.
The veteran transfer wide receiver has reportedly decided to transfer to South Carolina for the 2026 season. He’s a bit familiar with Shane Beamer and the staff, having walked on for the Gamecocks back in 2022.

Black began his career at South Carolina in 2022 and is coming back for his final year. He started 11 game and caught 22 passes for 273 yards and 2 TDs at UCF. pic.twitter.com/c6Cq1UcmpP
A native of Inman, South Carolina, Black was listed at 6-3, 205 pounds on the UCF roster. He is entering his final season of college football eligibility.
In 2022, Black redshirted at South Carolina. He ran indoor track for the Gamecocks in the spring.
Black decided to pursue a football opportunity, going the Division II route and landing at Limestone. The university closed at the end of the spring semester in 2025.
As a redshirt freshman, Black recorded 8 catches for 225 yards and 3 touchdowns in 2023. He had a breakout season in 2024, logging 939 receiving yards and 11 scores.
Black’s strong showing at Limestone led to an FBS opportunity at UCF. With the Knights, he poted 22 catches for 273 yards and 2 TDs.
