South Carolina earns commitment from QB recruit in class of 2027
South Carolina has its quarterback for the class of 2027.
The Gamecocks landed a commitment from 3-star quarterback Jerry Meyer III on Friday morning. Meyer, a Texas native, was previously committed to TCU and has offers from other SEC programs such as Arkansas and Mississippi State.
Meyer decommitted from TCU on Feb. 4 and has formalized new college plans less than 2 months later.
He told GamecockCentral that new offensive coordinator Kendal Briles was a big part of his decision to commit to South Carolina. Shane Beamer hired Briles to run South Carolina’s offense in 2026 earlier this offseason.
Meyer is currently regarded as the No. 56 quarterback in the nation for the class of 2027, per 247Sports Composite rankings. However, his ranking could rise before the end of the cycle given that his offer list includes numerous power-conference programs. He’s currently a 3-star prospect.
South Carolina now has 4 commits in the class of 2027. The class is currently led by 4-star safety Jernard Albright. The Early Signing Period for the class of 2027 is scheduled for December, so there’s still a few months before Meyer and other prospects can formally join the South Carolina program.
Here are some highlights from Meyer’s junior season of high school football:
