Tennessee has not given up its pursuit of former Arizona State quarterback Sam Leavitt, according to a report.

That’s per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz, who notes that the Vols are still hoping to land Leavitt out of the portal despite his commitment to Lane Kiffin and LSU on Monday. Leavitt is widely-regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in the transfer portal.

Leavitt has visited a number of programs during his recruitment. He’s the consensus top quarterback who has not committed — and some services rate him as the No. 1 overall player to enter the transfer portal this offseason.

Tennessee is looking for a new quarterback as Joey Aguilar exhausted his college eligibility during the 2026 season (although Aguilar is seeking an NCAA waiver to be eligible in 2026).

Leavitt had a disappointing season in 2025 with the Sun Devils, but led Arizona State to a College Football Playoff berth in 2024. In addition to his ability as a passer, Leavitt has rushed for over 800 yards and 10 touchdowns during his college career.

Tennessee hosts LSU in 2026, adding a bit more intrigue into Leavitt’s final decision. While he has committed to LSU, he has not signed with the Tigers as of this writing.
