Tennessee senior defensive back reportedly enters NCAA transfer portal

Over four seasons at Tennessee, Shawn Shamburger has played 38 games and made 16 starts. However, the defensive back played only three games in 2020, before opting out of the rest of the season.
Now, Shamburger could be heading to another school to finish his college career.
According to Matt Zenitz of AL.com, Shamburger has entered the NCAA transfer portal, as he’ll explore his options for the 2021 season. So, it’s possible that Shamburger has suited up for Tennessee for the final time.
Over four years, Shamburger had 86 tackles, five pass deflections, four sacks and one interception. He had nine tackles during his limited time on the field in 2020.
A 5-foot-11, 187-pound cornerback out of Colquitt County (Ga.) High School, Shamburger was a 3-star recruit in Tennessee’s 2017 class. He became an immediate contributor for the Vols, playing 11 games and making one start as a freshman.
Although Tennessee had high expectations for the 2020 season, opening the year with two straight wins, it lost seven of its final eight games to finish at 3-7. It likely didn’t help that the Vols didn’t have Shamburger in their secondary for most of the season, as he provided solid play for much of his career with the team.
