Dejuan Lane made a big impact in the Tennessee Volunteers‘ 45-24 victory over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Week 2. That game, Lane had a 41-yard pick-six.

Somehow, his efforts back then don’t compare to the dominance he showed in the Vols’ 24-14 win vs. the Auburn Tigers.

Last Saturday, Lane made nine tackles, more than he had tallied in Tennessee’s first four games (8). He also had two sacks, 2.5 tackles for loss and an interception, which earned him Walter Camp National Defensive Player of the Week honors for Week 5.

Lane, a junior defensive back from Jessup, MD, joined the Volunteers after transferring from Penn State this offseason. The Nittany Lions’ firing of James Franklin led him to enter the transfer portal, and Josh Heupel is reaping the benefits.

Tennessee’s defense leads the country in sacks (23). The Vols are also tied with the LSU Tigers for the third-fewest points allowed (76) in the SEC. Their defense and rushing attack, led by DeSean Bishop, has helped them to a 4-1 record.

Lane and Co. can pick up their second SEC victory of the season against the Arkansas Razorbacks on Saturday afternoon (4:15 p.m. E.T., SEC Network).
