Former Florida quarterback Kyle Trask is entering his first training camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and so far has earned high praise from starting QB Tom Brady.
The Bucs picked Trask No. 64 overall in the 2021 NFL Draft with the idea of making him a backup for as long as Brady is healthy and active in the NFL.
Brady, who is entering Year 22, said Trask has done all the right things so far.
“Kyle’s done a great job from the day that he got here. He’s a very hard worker,” Brady told reporters on Thursday, via Pro Football Talk. “Kyle’s out here early, stays late, works with the younger guys. All the things you’re really looking for in a young player. This has got to be a huge priority in your life if you want to be doing this job for a long time — you’ve got to make it a huge priority.
“You really don’t know what you don’t know at this point, when you’re one year in or two years in or three years in or five years in. As somebody who’s 22 years in, what I knew at five years in is very different from what I knew at 10, and very different from what I know now.”
It’s a good sign for Trask’s career that he’s earning high praise from Brady so early on in his development.
Trask is coming off an excellent season at Florida after leading the Gators to the Cotton Bowl. He completed 68.9 percent of his passes for 4,283 yards, 43 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions.
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will be striving for a second consecutive Super Bowl run this season. Their 2021 campaign begins on Sept. 9 vs. the Dallas Cowboys.
