Quarterback Jaxson Dart sparked the New York Giants to their first win of the season in his first pro start, a 21-18 victory vs. the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday. Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Troy Aikman came away extremely impressed with the debut from the Ole Miss product.
Prior to calling the Monday Night Football game between the Cincinnati Bengals and Denver Broncos, the ESPN analyst raved about the intangibles Dart provided. Dart completed 13 of his 20 passes along with a touchdown while also rushing for 54 yards and a score.
“Momentum in this league I think means something. What he brought to that team, the numbers themselves I don’t think you’re blown away by that. But when you watch what he was able to do running the football, he didn’t go down. He didn’t slide. He was taking defenders on…” Aikman said. “The energy that he brought to this team, it’s been lacking. It’s obviously that his teammates they rallied around him yesterday and they were able to pull off the win.”
Dart replaced Russell Wilson under center, who began the season as the Giants’ starting quarterback. He will look to spearhead a winning streak when the Giants square off against the host New Orleans Saints on Sunday (1 p.m. ET/CBS).
