When Pat McAfee is on College GameDay, he usually becomes a walking poster boy for whichever school the program is attending for the weekend. That was far from the case last weekend in the Beehive State.

On Monday, McAfee expressed true displeasure over his GameDay experience at the University of Utah. His remarks stemmed from a brief video that the school shared on its Instagram account, where it asked students to “give a Pat McAfee impression.” McAfee said the video made him “uncomfortable.” On Tuesday, the university released a statement apologizing for the video and McAfee’s negative experience.

“Our goal during the [College GameDay] visit was to create a lighthearted engagement regarding Pat being back on campus, but we missed the mark,” Utah wrote. “University staff are responsible for reviewing and posting content on official social media accounts and we take full accountability… we sincerely apologize for creating any perception that Pat was unsafe or unwelcome on our campus.”

As tame as the video may be, releasing it on a university account probably wasn’t the smartest move. And, to his credit, McAfee seemed irked by that more than the video itself or the students in it. Regardless, Utah’s response to his commentary left people split on both McAfee and the Utes.

Utah, one of three remaining unbeaten teams in college football, faces Cincinnati — who knocked off previously undefeated Texas Tech last Saturday — in Week 9.
