Van Jefferson confirmed that he did, in fact, “owe one” to Baker Mayfield.

If you did not see, Mayfield found Jefferson in the endzone for a 23-yard game-winning score against the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football.

After the game, Mayfield said, “I was trying to get him to come to Oklahoma, he wouldn’t text or call back… he owes me one.” Jefferson confirmed that this is indeed a true story.

Mayfield transferred to Oklahoma from Texas Tech. After he sat out the 2014 season, Mayfield tried to recruit Jefferson to join him at Oklahoma. Jefferson would ultimately choose to attend Ole Miss before he transferred to Florida in 2018.

Jefferson and Mayfield were finally on the same team when the Los Angeles Rams this week claimed Mayfield off of waivers. Mayfield has had a tumultuous season that resulted in him being cut by the Carolina Panthers.

Thanks to the incredible catch by Jefferson, Mayfield is 1-0 as the starter for the Rams.
