A college football stadium was close to a scary situation early Sunday.

Hattiesburg, Mississippi and surrounding areas experienced severe weather in the early AM hours. The National Weather Service in Jackson issued a tornado warning at 5:52 a.m. CT.

One social media video of the tornado shows the storm with Southern Miss’s M.M. Roberts Stadium in the foreground. Southern Miss, in its first season under new head coach Charles Huff, opened spring practice in mid-March. The Golden Eagles are set to hold their annual spring game on Saturday.

WDAM chronicled 6 storm reports filed early Sunday in the Pine Belt area. Other posts detail the storm’s impact to the area.
