WATCH: Bob Huggins blasts refs for 35-2 free-throw disparity after loss to Kansas

West Virginia held a double-digit lead in the second half of Saturday night’s game at Kansas, but the Mountaineers watched as that lead slipped away in a disappointing 77-69 loss.

It was a tough way for coach Bob Huggins’s squad to lose, especially since West Virginia didn’t get any help from the referees. In fact, the Jayhawks shot a whopping 35 free throws on Saturday night (making 26), while the Mountaineers only shot two free throws all game long.

After the game, Huggins was understandably upset about that free-throw disparity, blasting the officials as you can see in the video below, shared on Twitter by @TomKCTV5:

“Officials want to be a part of the game, but they don’t want to be part of the game where they have to answer,” he said. “Why aren’t they in here answering your questions? We’re gonna bring 19-21 year olds in here who don’t get paid and you’re gonna ask them questions… because they don’t want to get asked ‘why didn’t you call this? Why didn’t you call that?'”

Huggins will likely be hearing from the Big 12 office after these comments, and will almost certainly receive a hefty fine. However, if it results in discipline for the officials involved in Saturday’s game, he’ll probably happily pay any fine levied against him.
