Will Muschamp suggests other schools don’t value class like Texas does

During a media availability earlier this week, new Texas defensive coordinator Will Muschamp suggested that other schools — though he didn’t specify which — don’t value education the way Texas does for its student-athletes. Muschamp was discussing what kind of player the Longhorns are looking to attract, and his answer turned into a veiled shot at… someone.
“In our society right now, sometimes that’s easy to spot that they don’t (want to be coached hard). We’ve got to make sure that we stay away from those guys that don’t want to get developed and coached the right way,” Muschamp said. “Our players go to school here at Texas. We actually go to class. Not like some other places.”
Muschamp has been coaching in the SEC for the last 2 decades. He was at Georgia from 2021-25, and he was the South Carolina head coach from 2016-20. He coordinated Auburn’s defense in 2015, led Florida’s program from 2011-14, and worked as a Texas assistant from 2008-10.
For the 2023-24 academic year, Texas had the fourth-highest APR of any current SEC school. Only Alabama, Auburn, and Missouri were better. UT’s APR tied for the 21st-best nationally.
