Johni Broome trolled by language-learning app after NBA Combine performance

Former Auburn big man Johni Broome was one of the top performers in college basketball this past season and an All-American. Now, he’s at the NBA Draft Combine and looking to improve his stock, but one video did not go well on social media.
That video includes Broome’s test in the standing vertical leap. While it looks like Broome did well enough in the test, it was not the kind of leap that’s going to leave analysts or fans wowed and astonished.
Many on social media were even critical of the attempt. In fact, Duolingo, a popular language-learning app, quoted the video with a savvy troll from its verified account on X (formerly Twitter).
Check it out:
That, of course, is a reference to the fact that some on social media do not expect Broome to experience a successful career in the NBA. Regardless of whether or not that expectation is valid, it’s undeniably wild to see an account like Duolingo enter the conversation.
For what it’s worth, ESPN’s draft experts, Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo, aren’t high on Broome’s prospects either. They have Broome projected as the 37th overall pick, a 2nd-round grade, in their latest NBA mock draft.
If that does play out, it could be tough for Broome to crack an NBA lineup early in his career.
