New England Patriots defensive lineman and former Alabama star Christian Barmore is reportedly facing a domestic assault charge stemming from an incident in August.

WCVB-TV in Boston reported Wednesday that Barmore, a five-year NFL veteran who was the defensive MVP of the 2021 College Football Playoff title game for Alabama, is facing a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery on a family/household member.

The alleged incident happened Aug. 8, and the victim allegedly didn’t come forward sooner out of fear of retaliation but decided to move forward with charges in September. The criminal complaint was issued on Dec. 16. Barmore is scheduled to be arraigned on Feb. 3, 2026 — 5 days before Super Bowl LX.

The Patriots released a statement about the allegations against Barmore on Wednesday:

“The New England Patriots are aware of reports regarding a pending February arraignment involving Christian Barmore, which stems from an alleged domestic incident that occurred in August. The Patriots were made aware at the time of the incident and informed the NFL in a timely manner. The matter remains part of an ongoing legal process. We will respect that process, continue to monitor the situation closely, as we have over the past few months, and cooperate fully with the league. We will have no further comment at this time.”

Barmore was a second-round draft pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. He has played in all 16 games this season, with 15 starts for the 13-3 Patriots. He has 26 tackles and 1 sack this season.
