Former South Carolina WR Alshon Jeffery arrested for fraud, per report
Former South Carolina standout and Super Bowl-winning wide receiver Alshon Jeffery was arrested earlier this week in California on charges related to fraud, according to a report from TMZ.
Jeffery is charged with running an insurance fraud scheme, per the report. He has also reportedly been charged with failure to disclose insurance benefits or payments. The fraud charge is a felony and can carry up to 5 years in prison.
Other details surrounding the arrest were not provided. TMZ reported that Jeffrey was booked into a California jail on Wednesday and was later released.
Jeffrey was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. He spent the first 5 years of his professional career in the Windy City before joining the Philadelphia Eagles in 2017. He played for the Eagles for 4 seasons, winning a Super Bowl in 2018.
Before the NFL, Jeffery spent 3 seasons at South Carolina (2009-11). In 2010, he caught 88 passes for 1,517 yards and 9 scores. A year later, he helped the Gamecocks to an 11-2 record.
The St. Matthews native had his jersey retired in 2023. He was a First-Team All-American in 2010 and a 2-time All-SEC selection.
