The New York Giants hoped to build off an impressive Week 1 victory over the Dallas Cowboys with a strong showing against the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night. Instead, things took a dire turn early.
On just the seventh snap of the game, Jaxson Dart suffered what appeared to be a severe leg injury. Fortunately, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the second-year quarterback’s ailment is not season-ending. After Monday’s game, Rapoport reported Dart is “believed to have suffered a sprained MCL.”

The injury will cause Dart to miss games, but Giants fans are breathing a sigh of relief at the news. Jameis Winston didn’t exactly inspire confidence after replacing Dart, completing just 40.7% of his passes (11/27) for 111 yards and an interception in New York’s 28-6 loss.
Dart, a 2025 first-round pick out of Ole Miss, had a solid rookie campaign. In 14 games (12 starts), he completed 63.7% of his passes for 2,272 yards, 15 touchdowns and five interceptions. He added another 487 yards and nine touchdowns on the ground in route to a fourth-place finish in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting.
The Giants (1-1) host the Tennessee Titans (0-2) on Sunday, Sept. 27 in Week 3.
