Jaxson Dart showered with praise on social media for preseason performance
Jaxson Dart was a known commodity in Oxford while he starred for Ole Miss.
But the rookie quarterback had a lot to prove this preseason to a demanding fan base in the biggest market in the country. So far, Dart is doing just that for the New York Giants in August, and he kept his preseason momentum going on Saturday night against the team that shares MetLife Stadium with the Giants.
Dart shredded the New York Jets in a 31-12 victory, and he had everybody buzzing all about it. The former Rebels star went 14-of-16 passing, so he barely missed a target, for 137 yards, with 1 passing touchdown and 1 rushing TD. Dart showed off his right arm and he showed that versatility with his legs that Ole Miss fans came to know and love.
He was similarly solid against the Bills in the preseason opener last week against the Bills, when Dart went 12 of 19 for 154 yards and a touchdown.
Maybe the best part of Dart’s 2-game preseason sample size? He’s thrown 0 interceptions, which is something that’s usually seen from a rookie quarterback, especially in the preseason when everything is so new and the NFL game feels so fast. Not for Dart, who the Giants took in the spring with their first-round pick, 25th overall.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll still maintains that Russell Wilson is the Giants’ starter and that the franchise is going to develop Dart. So far, Dart is developing quite well, and the Giants have to be pleasantly surprised with the starting quarterback they might have down the line. Social media was pleasantly surprised, too, and there was a lot of online praise to go around for Dart on Saturday night.
Here is that social media praise that greeted Dart during and after his stellar performance:
