A week after earning the backup quarterback job for the Denver Broncos, former Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly continued to strengthen his hold on the position.

In Saturday night’s loss to the Chicago Bears, Kelly had another good performance, completing 7 of his 9 pass attempts for 90 yards and a touchdown.

Following the game, coach Vance Joseph said Kelly will remain in the backup role until someone takes it from him (via 247Sports):

“Right now (Chad Kelly) is our guy,” he said. “I can’t speak for two weeks down the road here. But right now he’s our backup quarterback.”

As for Kelly, he said he’s going to continue to prepare like he’s the starter. He said he wants to avoid giving the team a reason to bump someone else ahead of him on the depth chart:

The Broncos play the Washington Redskins on Friday, so Kelly will have another opportunity to prove his worth then.
