On Wednesday afternoon, a U.S. district judge granted Ole Miss’s motion to dismiss former coach Houston Nutt’s lawsuit against them.

The order basically said that the federal court system didn’t have jurisdiction over the case, and thus couldn’t rule on the lawsuit.

Now, though, Nutt’s attorney, Thomas Mars, has responded to the court’s order, laying out his plan for the case moving forward:

This puts to bed the idea that the case has come to an end and that Ole Miss has won. On the contrary, quite the opposite may be true, as Mars will now file the suit in state court.

Mars and Nutt have offered the university a settlement, which includes an apology and $500,000 to form a state ethics committee on college athletics. Ole Miss could explore that option again in the coming days.
