Leave it to a former offensive lineman to sign eight big uglies in a single recruiting class.

That’s exactly what Ole Miss is poised to do if the Rebels don’t suffer any defections to the program’s 2019 commitment list as Matt Luke’s program picked up a pledge from Arkansas native Darius Thomas on Tuesday. Thomas is the highest rated offensive lineman to commit to commit to Ole Miss in the current recruiting cycle as 247Sports Composite Rankings list him as a four-star recruit the No. 19 offensive tackle in the nation and the No. 3 overall prospect from Arkansas.

You certainly can’t knock Luke’s current strategy for building up his program as the former team captian and offensive lineman during his playing days in Oxford knows better than most that success in the SEC starts with having strong play in the trenches. It’s only natural that he’d build his program with tons of linemen to help fix the program’s recent issues along the line of scrimmage.

Thomas publicly announced his commitment to Ole Miss on Tuesday with the following note on Twitter:

Landing Thomas’ commitment is a big get for Ole Miss, as Georgia, Arkansas, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State and Texas have all extended scholarship offers to the Jonesboro native. The Rebels now hold commitments from 27 prospects for the 2019 recruiting cycle following Thomas’ decision to commit.
