As allegations continue to surface and penalties are imposed on Ole Miss, it’s understandable that many 2017 Rebel signees will consider somehow breaking from their signed letter of intents to the school — similar to many Baylor commits in the 2016 recruiting cycle after head coach Art Briles was fired.

However, don’t count three-star safety A.J. Harris among those wavering in their support of Ole Miss. The Alabama native told AL.com that he’s still firm in his commitment to the Rebels’ program:

“All through recruiting, they kept me updated,” Harris said of the Ole Miss coaching staff. “They said that we could possibly get a bowl ban. I said, ‘This is my school. I want to come here. I know the risk of coming here that we could be banned from a bowl.'”

Harris added that other schools tried to use the potential bowl ban against Hugh Freeze and the Rebels on the recruiting trail, but he didn’t listen to the criticism:

“They were saying, ‘Wouldn’t you want to play in a bowl game your freshman year? You know you’re going to a school that could possibly be banned,'” Harris said. “I didn’t listen. It went in one ear and out the other.”

According to 247Sports, Harris is the No. 35 safety in the class of 2017 and the No. 27 overall recruit from the state of Alabama.

The 6-foot, 190-pound defender is part of the Ole Miss 2017 class that finished the recruiting cycle ranked as the No. 30 overall class nationally and the No. 12 class in the SEC.
